Carolyn Jacobs, Psy.D.

Carolyn Jacobs, Psy.D. is a licensed Psychologist (PSY 15774) and licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (MFC 27264) in San Diego, CA. Dr. Jacobs has a private clinical psychology practice and specializes in working with individuals, couples and families through the lens of Bowen theory. Dr. Jacobs has over twenty years of experience with managed care, is a court-approved therapist by San Diego County TERM Team, and has extensive experience working with military families. She is on many insurance approved provider lists and is a Medical/Medicare provider. Her fourteen years of registered nursing background provides a psychotherapeutic approach to chronic illness and caregiver support. She is AAMFT Approved Supervisor of Supervisors and CAMFT Certified Supervisor. Dr. Jacobs offers individual and group supervision to registered interns working toward licensure and to licensed psychotherapists working toward their approved supervisor status. Dr. Jacobs participated in the Special Post-Graduate Training Program in Bowen Theory at the Bowen Center for the Study of the Family (Georgetown Family Center) from 1995 to 2000. She is co-founder of the Network Program for the Advancement of Bowen Theory at the Bowen Center in Washington, D.C. Dr. Jacobs is an approved Continuing Education Provider with the CA Board of Behavioral Sciences (# PCE 959) and the CA Psychological Association – Office of Professional Development (CPA-OPD #SOU042). Dr. Jacobs currently serves as Vice President of the Board of Directors of the Bowen Theory Academy, Islesboro, ME. (2012 to present).

In addition to her private psychology practice, Dr, Jacobs is Director of Southern California Education and Training in Bowen Family Systems Theory. This program was established in 1999 and provides education and training to individuals interested in the principles and concepts developed by Murray Bowen, M.D. The program emphasizes “systems thinking” as a way to conceptualize human functioning and focuses on developing a way of thinking that promotes responsible and thoughtful application of Bowen theory to one’s personal and professional life. A variety of Southern California Education and Training Programs in Bowen Theory are approved for continuing education credits (CE Credits) for LMFT/LCSW and Psychologists in California.

Bowen Theory education and training opportunities offered year round include:
