Overview

Southern California Education & Training in Bowen Family Systems Theory and Psychotherapy was established in 1999 by Carolyn Jacobs, Psy.D. (PSY15774). This program provides education and training to individuals interested in the principles and concepts developed by Murray Bowen, M.D. The program emphasizes “systems thinking” as a way to conceptualize human functioning. The education & training program focuses on developing a way of thinking that promotes responsible and thoughtful application of Bowen theory to one’s personal and professional life. Understanding and applying Bowen family systems theory principles and concepts can lead to more effective options for managing life’s challenges in the family and the workplace. Participants in education and training programs come from a variety of professional backgrounds including mental health, business, clergy, law, medicine, and education.

Education and training opportunities offered year round include:

  • Bi-annual one and two-day conferences with faculty from the Bowen Center for the Study of the Family as featured speakers - CE Credits available.
  • Monthly Bowen theory consultation groups
  • Monthly web cast conferences featuring faculty from the Bowen Center in Washington, D.C. - CE Credits available.
  • Individual Bowen theory coaching and supervision
