Overview

Southern California Education & Training in Bowen Family Systems Theory and Psychotherapy was established in 1999 by Carolyn Jacobs, Psy.D. (PSY15774). This program provides education and training to individuals interested in the principles and concepts developed by Murray Bowen, M.D. The program emphasizes “systems thinking” as a way to conceptualize human functioning. The education & training program focuses on developing a way of thinking that promotes responsible and thoughtful application of Bowen theory to one’s personal and professional life. Understanding and applying Bowen family systems theory principles and concepts can lead to more effective options for managing life’s challenges in the family and the workplace. Participants in education and training programs come from a variety of professional backgrounds including mental health, business, clergy, law, medicine, and education.

Bowen Theory Education and Training opportunities offered year round include:

  • Three annual one-day conferences featuring faculty from the Bowen Theory Academy, Islesboro, ME. and the Bowen Center for the Study of the Family , Washington, D.C. – CE Credits available.
  • Monthly Bowen Theory consultation groups.
  • Monthly live web cast conferences featuring Michael Kerr, M.D. Director of the Bowen Theory Academy & Director Emeritus of the Bowen Center for the Study of the Family – CE Credits available.
  • Individual Bowen theory coaching and supervision.
